A decade or so ago, a successful online business is an impossible feat for most people. People like me who have very little technical knowledge of computers and the workings of the internet would never dream of using it as a source of additional income. Building a profitable online business is beyond my imagination.

The internet marketing boom, however, made building an online business within the reach of most people. Marketing tools and programs that ensure the success of any online business are made available to online entrepreneurs. Along with this internet marketing craze is the affiliate marketing revolution.

The popularity of affiliate marketing is growing day by day. Never before has the work at home opportunity been so talked and raved about. People are now using the internet to earn additional income and others are using the web as their main source of income. Affiliate marketing can be simply explained as promoting somebody else’s business in your own website in exchange for a certain percentage of the generated sale. In effect, you are a partner of the business entrepreneur and your sole responsibility is to promote his products online.

On the part of a merchant, the most important feature of affiliate marketing is the remarkable exposure he will get just by choosing the right affiliate marketers. Promoting his products in thousands of websites is easily done at a fraction of the advertising cost if he has to do the promotion himself. Moreover, with affiliate marketing, the need for a pretty big work force and sizeable operational expenses is eliminated thus reducing investment. An affiliate program is one of the easiest ways to maximize profits. A merchant would only have to supply the link, decide on the amount of the commission and presto! Be on the way to success.

A website owner, just like the merchant would also derive benefits from affiliate marketing. Just like a silent or passive partner, a website owner or in this case the affiliate marketer does not have to bear overhead cost nor any other cost for that matter since most affiliate programs are free. Also it is not necessary to stock the products promoted since in the event of actual sale, the customer is sent to the merchant or to the vendor of the product. To maximize earnings, the affiliate marketer can run several affiliate programs for various clients from a single website.

The affiliate marketer’s foremost duty is to see to it that the sites are visited by potential customers and that these visitors will be turned into paying customers-meaning the visitors will be encouraged to buy. Using the pay per click program is a sure way of directing visitors to the site. Google Adwords is one of these pay per click programs that will certainly pull in visitors with their cleverly written ads.

With the boom in the internet business, the most effective affiliate marketing technique on hand and people with high ranking websites as far as SEO is concerned, affiliate marketing can be very profitable and a good source monthly income for anybody who would wish to venture in any online business.

Yes Yes, I have been hearing for years how great Google adwords is. And it is torture to me because at one time this was my great dream. I had the short opportunity to actually be allowed to run google Adwords and while I did, I made a killing. But by short, I really do mean short. I only had the opportunity to spend about $75 there. But, I made about $250 back. It was a major pain in my chest after I was banned. the pain continued for years after every time I revisited the idea.

But, there are numerous other ways to make money online.

I have also come to realize recently (after my most recent attempt to get back into google adwords) that many other webmasters have also been banned from adwords recently in an attempt for Google to clean up Adwords.

For those of you who have not been banned, maybe do a few searches of people who have been banned lately and you will realize how precious the gem is that you are still holding on to. Cherish it and respect their policies.
