Mozillas Firefox browser is an essential tool for most webmasters thanks to its addons which can be used to help with everything from web design to SEO. Below is a list of some of the Firefox extensions I have installed and use regularly.
- Firebug
- This one is for both developers and designers who need to easily view the source code or CSS styles of a webpage. The ability to make changes to the html and CSS to see how it will change the page without editing the actual files or refreshing the page makes it a winner.
- SearchStatus
- There are plenty of SEO extensions for Firefox and I've found SearchStatus to be as good as any. The only reason I downloaded it was to have easy access to Google pageranks. But it also has a number of other features such as searching for backlinks, whois records and highlighting links that are nofollow.
- Pixlr Grabber
- Great for grabbing screenshots of webpages. Allows you to choose between capturing an entire webpage, just the visible part or a defined area which you choose. Another similar add-on to look up is FireShot.
- FlagFox
- This Firefox addon puts a little flag at the end of the address bar that denotes which country the website is hosted in. This is useful information when link building to make as most SEO experts believe server location plays apart in relevance. You can also get the servers IP address by hovering over the flag to make sure all your links aren't coming from the same location.
- MeasureIt
- Easy way for designers to measure elements and sections on a page. No more changing your CSS styles by 1px at a time to get the width just right.
- ColorZilla
- This add-on can be used to grab a color off of any pixel in a webpage. Great for matching up colors on images with html colors in your stylesheets.
